LinkedIn profile visitors: curiosity comes before conversation

LinkedIn profile visitors show who in your target looked you up in the last few days. It is curiosity, usually sparked by a post, an invitation or an email. Here is how to turn it into a conversation without ever telling the prospect you saw their visit.

LinkedIn profile visitors give you the timing, your content gives you the topic

What happens: someone in your target views your profile

LinkedIn lists the people who viewed your profile. Most arrive after something you did: a post they read, an invitation they received, an email that made them check who you are.

A free LinkedIn account only shows part of them. The signal still pays off: every visible visitor who fits your target now knows your name.

A visit says "who is this?", not "I want to buy"

The person spent a few seconds placing you. Your next message will not land completely cold: your name, photo and title will feel vaguely familiar. That is the main value of the signal.

The visit, however, is not something you mention. Writing "thanks for checking out my profile" makes the prospect uneasy: they looked without announcing themselves. Use the signal to write within a few days, on the topic that most likely brought them, and keep the visit out of the message.

LinkedIn: an invitation built on what you publish

If you are not connected yet, an invitation is the natural first move. It leans on what you publish, not on what they did.

Invitation: Hi {first_name}, I write regularly about {topic} for {function} leaders at growing companies. I would be glad to have you in my network.

Message once accepted: Thanks {first_name}. This week I am posting about {post_topic}. At {company}, is that something you have already settled, or still under discussion?

Email: something useful, with no reference to LinkedIn

If you have a verified email, send a resource or a question about their job. The prospect may connect it to your profile; that is for them to do.

Message template · EmailFirst contact email on a job-related theme

Subject: {topic}, a quick question

Hi {first_name},

I work with {function} leaders at companies like {company} on {topic}.

The question that keeps coming up right now: {job_question}. How do you approach it on your side?

If useful, I can send you the method we see working, on a single page. A simple "yes" is enough.

{my_name}

Phone: only once a second signal confirms

A visit alone does not justify a call. Call when the invitation is accepted, an email is opened several times or a reply comes in. Open with what you can mention.

Opening: Hi {first_name}, this is {my_name} from {my_company}. We connected on LinkedIn recently, so I thought I would call. Do you have two minutes?

Topic: I am talking with a lot of {function} leaders about {topic} at the moment. Where are you on that at {company}?

Dig deeper: What would save you the most time over the next three months?

Next step: I suggest a 30 minute call to show how other teams handle it. Which slot suits you?

  2. Step 02Only your target is keptVisitors are compared with your ICP. Your messages go to the people who matter.
  3. Step 03The agent prepares the approachInvitation and messages are written around your themes. The prospect card reminds the rep not to mention the visit.
  4. Step 04Sending stays carefulInvitations and messages stay within the cap of 20 LinkedIn actions per day per account.
  5. Step 05The rep calls when heat buildsVisit, acceptance and opens add up in the score. The prospect climbs the call queue.

The slips that close the door

  • Writing "I saw you viewed my profile": the prospect feels watched.
  • Pitching in the invitation when they only wanted to know who you are.
  • Treating every visitor as a prospect, recruiters and competitors included.
  • Letting two weeks go by: your name will mean nothing to them anymore.
  • Calling on a visit alone, with no other sign of interest.

A profile visit remains the weakest LinkedIn signal

  • A free LinkedIn account only shows part of your visitors, and some people browse in private mode.
  • Many visits come from recruiters, salespeople or curious people outside your target.
  • Visit volume depends on your activity: without posts or invitations, it stays low.
  • The signal gains value when it follows your own actions and another signal confirms it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I tell the prospect I saw their visit?

No. The visit was discreet, and bringing it up feels awkward. Prosperian uses it to pick the moment, and the call card files it under what not to say.

Does this signal cost credits?

No, profile views are a free signal in Prosperian. Credits only apply if you enrich the contact.

Do I need LinkedIn Premium?

It is not required. A free account only shows part of your visitors, which is enough to start. The more you post, the longer the list gets.

How do I get more useful visits?

Post for your target. Prosperian's LinkedIn publishing agent drafts and publishes posts following your strategy, and can publish on its own. Every well-targeted post brings more relevant visitors.

How soon after the visit should I act?

Within a few days, while your name still feels familiar. After that, the signal is worth little more than a cold contact.
